Kayak Dog Mushing Trips Now Available!!!
Sunny Cove Kayaking is proud to announce a brand new trip starting this summer. Has the physical aspect of paddling a kayak around held you back from joining us on a trip?! Well worry no longer as this summer we are offering a kayaking adventure where you are pulled along in the water by a team of 8 swimming sled dogs. Sounds crazy right?! Let’s backtrack and explain how this idea came about.
Our brand new kayak dog mushing trip!
Last month Alaska held the most famous sled dog race in the world…the Iditarod. The sled dogs that run the Iditarod train year round and are some of the best animal athletes on the planet. And like with human athletes, research is finding new ways to improve the stamina of these sled dogs with recent studies showing that sled dogs that engage in swimming exercise training are 20% more efficient when running sleds than sled dogs that only train on land. In fact, the past three winners of the great Alaskan race have all trained their sled dogs in the water during the warmer summer months.
And that’s where we come in! In partnership with one of the Iditarod racers, Sunny Cove Kayaking will have access to several dozens of their sled dogs this summer to help them train for the 2024 Iditarod. A group of 8 sled dogs will be attached to your kayak and will pull you through the water as you explore the beautiful sights and sounds of Resurrection Bay. Guests will still have a paddle that they can use as they see fit, but this trip will allow our clients to spend more time taking photos and enjoying the majestic scenery of coastal Alaska. The dogs get their summer swimming training in and our guests get to sit back and enjoy the ride…a win win for all!
If the idea of kayaking has always sounded fun, but the notion of having to paddle the entire time has scared you off, then this is the trip for you! Sign up today for your Kayak Dog Mushing Trip with Sunny Cove Kayaking.
And P.S., yes, there will be puppies to play with at the beach after your trip and we wish you all a very happy April 1st!
