It’s a Sunny Cove World After All!

We are excited to share an incredible upcoming partnership with The Walt Disney Company. Tokyo Disneyland is updating their It’s A Small World Ride and Sunny Cove Kayaking is helping Disney reimagine the guest experience.

Sunny Cove Kayaking is based in Seward, Alaska which since 1968 has had a sister-city relationship with Obihiro, Japan. The cities have exchanged students each year since 1973 and have also exchanged gifts including the Obihiro Friendship Mural which can be found on Seward’s K.M. Rae Marine Education Building.

This year, Sunny Cove Kayaking was selected to provide the gift to our sister city and will be presenting that gift to Obihiro in the form of a fleet of wooden kayaks that Sunny Cove staff have spent the winter building. Obihiro has agreed to loan these kayaks to Tokyo Disneyland to use as the main mode of transportation for their upgraded It’s A Small World ride.

In exchange for the kayaks, Obihiro will be gifting Sunny Cove Kayaking one of the current boats that the ride uses that will be replaced with the wooden kayak fleet. Sunny Cove Kayaking plans to use this boat for an exclusive It’s A Small World Disney-themed kayak adventure where Sunny Cove guides will paddle kayaks towing guests in this antiquated vessel. Guests will be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the incredible wildlife and calm waters that the Gulf of Alaska is known for. Disney is known for their firework shows and there will be a spectacular one at the end of every trip this summer. And of course, speakers will be installed to play the It’s A Small World theme song everyone adores from this ride.

Once upgraded, Seward residents will receive free admission to Tokyo Disneyland for a full year and anyone who books a trip with Sunny Cove Kayaking this summer will be entered in a raffle to win round-trip tickets to Tokyo to go along with free admission to the Park.
